About the project
Villa 146 is a house in Karachi at concept stage. At this point the design studies four things: the overall massing, the character of the facade from the street, the arrangement of public and private areas, and the arrival sequence.
Several arrangements of volume and internal zoning are being tested against how the family lives, how much privacy it needs and how the house might change over time. The concept sets the direction that detailed design will follow.
The street face
From the street the house reads as two stacked blocks. The first floor projects forward over the entrance, with a recessed balcony set behind dark glazing, and a smaller rough-textured block sits above it with planting trailing from its edge. The boundary wall is kept low and plain, cut by vertical slots of light, with separate timber gates for cars and for people. Most of what the family does stays behind that wall, which is the point of the massing.
