A Mixed-Use centre developed to increase well-being and social connection between departments of a steel industry.
Sports Center – Mixed-Use Wellbeing Hub
Sports Center is a mixed-use wellbeing and social hub embedded within a steel industry campus. Conceived as a shared environment for employees across departments, it offers a setting that extends beyond the strict boundaries of production halls and administrative offices.
Scope and Approach
The architectural concept is driven by interaction and movement. ZADS approached the project as a place where circulation naturally turns into encounter: corridors become informal meeting zones, and thresholds between programs are designed to encourage chance conversations and departmental crossover.
The program combines recreation, pause spaces, and social areas, allowing the building to host sports activities, informal gatherings, and everyday breaks. Because it sits directly within a work environment, the design emphasizes durability and clarity while maintaining a sense of comfort. Materials and details are robust enough for intensive daily use, and wayfinding is straightforward so that users can intuitively understand how to move through the building.
Circulation routes and gathering zones are organized to be legible at a glance, reducing cognitive load for workers arriving from demanding industrial tasks. At the same time, the spatial expression aims to feel welcoming and energetic, using light, proportion, and visual connections to create an atmosphere distinct from the production floor.
Outcome
The Sports Center introduces a new social layer to the industrial campus. It supports wellbeing by offering spaces to reset—physically and mentally—during or after work, and it encourages cross-department relationships by giving teams a neutral, shared environment.
By framing recreation and informal gathering as integral parts of the workplace, the project demonstrates how architecture can positively influence workplace culture. The Sports Center becomes a catalyst for interaction, enabling employees to meet, pause, and connect outside their usual routines while still remaining closely tied to the context of industrial production.
